Welcome to our Rotary website, showcasing Rotary in the Thames Valley covering Berkshire, Oxfordshire, South Buckinghamshire and the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The Rotary Clubs and Rotaract Clubs do a variety of projects both locally, nationally and internationally.

If you are looking for a club near you, then click on the ‘clubs’ link at the top of the homepage. And if you are looking for more information then please use the contact form at the top of the homepage or use the contact form at the foot at lots of the pages through the site.

This video shows what Rotary does.

Update on Ukraine conflict

The District is currently fundraising for ambulances to go to Ukraine. The Rotary Club of Jordans and district are coordinating this project.

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES: Rotary Club of Reading Abbey has started a project in conjunction with the local community. Launch Reading helps establish and develop new businesses in Reading by supporting and developing entrepreneurs in under- resourced communities in the local area. This is done by providing free training, business development services and networking opportunities.

The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey is keen to share this model with other clubs in the District. Please contact them for more advice.

Rotary Projects

Our clubs make a difference both locally and internationally. One of the projects that has been supported by the district is the Vocational Training Team. This is a team of 4-5 people led by a Rotarian who can all teach birth emergency skills to local health professionals. It has been going out since 2014 initially to Kamuli Mission Hospital and lately to Ngora Freda Carr Hospital. Has it made a difference? It has improved lives of local women and their babies.

We now cover menstrual hygiene and how to make reusable sanitary pads using a local charity. The women cannot afford disposable sanitary pads so they either use rags, banana leaves or dig a hole and sit on it all day. This impacts on girls getting an education, impacts on women's self-esteem and is an infection risk

It is also an opportunity for health professionals to update their skills because unlike the UK they don't do annual updates in birth emergency skills which all midwives, obstetricians and paediatricians have to do. There is a plan to support another hospital in Kampala.
